Headteacher loses appeal against dismissal

Southend headteacher loses appeal against dismissal Southend headteacher loses appeal against dismissal

A HEADTEACHER’S appeal against her dismissal for gross misconduct has been thrown out. But former Priory School head Elizabeth Baines is still considering taking her case to an employment tribunal despite the ruling. Mrs Baines was suspended from Priory School, in Burr Hill Chase, Southend, in January 2012 amid allegations of bullying and financial mismanagement. In November she was finally dismissed by Southend Council, following an 11-month investigation. An appeal was heard by an independent Appeal Panel which announced this week it agreed with the council’s decision. Southend Council’s Interim Director of Children and Learning Simon Leftley said: “I can confirm that the Disciplinary and Appeal process with regards to Elizabeth Baines has been concluded. The Appeal Panel upheld the decision of dismissal on the grounds of gross misconduct.” Her husband David Baines told the Echo: “This has been an awful ordeal. We are still looking at taking her case to an employment tribunal.”

if she hangs around long enough I'm sure a headship will become vacant at the Basildon Academies soon enough

It does make me wonder that if you suspend someone from their job, then dig for months you will find something that goes against the vast rule book that governs our schools. This school caters for children who cannot or will not be accepted into mainstream school and was failing to meet these standards set from goverment and council. Can you blame the children or the leadership? Southend council appointed with the governers this Head teacher to create change, and change showed with good results and future projects which had a chance. I am not saying she was not guilty of any offence, just that she was given a job to sort out a tough school with huge problems and lacked support from those who have created this mess. Another special unit in southend is in trouble and southend council's answer is to make a joint school . STOP playing with these units support them now southend council as these are children with issues who need guidence, teaching, and stability. The outcome of children from these units is of intrest to us all as these units have the children the current form of education fails to impact on and on leaving result in unemployment, crime, and a social problem where offspring also fail in education. I wish Priory school all the best and pray that Southend council supports the Heads of these units more. Perhaps an inquest into the Councils support and running of education in southend is needed as they are failing as an employer to support staff.

Most people have a dark hidden past, the thing is when a person needs outing, cast or just replaced, it's a well tried method, so let's not start defending, let's look forward to the future, and a new dynamic head..

It may take time but what goes around comes around. Sometimes big jobs aren't always the green fields they appear on paper. Time for a new career and perhaps change of direction in how great we perceive ourselves and treat others? Good luck Liz!
