BOSSES at a Southend boat distributor are hoping for a major business boost after taking part in the country’s biggest vessell show.

Northsea Maritime Ltd, off Short Street, has been exhibiting its models at the London Boat Show this week, which is expected to attract more than 100,000 people.

Two of the firm’s yachts and motorboats have been anchored in the marina at the eight day event at the Excel Exhibition Centre in the capital, with many punters showing an interest in the boats.

The company’s director, Francine Johnson, said: “There’s been a good stream of visitors at the show this year, and people have been braving the cold to go out onto the marina to look at our boats, so that is an encouraging sign.

“We’re hoping it does well for our business.

“I think it would have much more of a negative impact if we weren’t seen to be at the event, as it is such a major industry show.

“We’ve seen how tough the economy is with businesses disappearing in the first few weeks of the year so it’s important to get ourselves out there.”

The firm, which distributes boats in the UK from overseas sellers, has two models on show at the bash - a 39 foot yacht called Feeling 39, and a Rhea motorboat.

Northsea also has a stand at the event, which has caught the eye of potential buyers.

The show, which is running from Jan 12 to Jan 20, showcases the latest brands, machines, and products, with thousands of boats for people to look round.

The firm has already started making plans for next year’s bash.

Ms Johnson added: “Entries are open for next year’s show so we’re working on getting our application together.

“We usually have it done and dusted ten months beforehand.

“We’ve been to the London Boat Show before and it’s had a good impact on our trading.

“Business has been okay this year, we’re still here, which is the most important thing, but shows like this certainly help with publicity.”
