Steve Coogan’s comic alter-ego Alan Partridge has returned to announce his new book, Nomad.
In a video message, Alan mocked the idea of a “golden age of TV” and slammed hit show Game Of Thrones, before announcing the future was in books, “e- and paper”.
He said: “If you work in television, you’re probably spluttering something about the mass appeal of Strictly Come Dancing or how cutting edge Game Of Thrones is with its sandals and dragons and occasional breasts.
“But I fail to see what’s cutting edge about a dragon, they were used to advertise mouthwash in the ’80s and they’ve been extinct for millions of years.”
Instead, he will be releasing the “autobiographical” Nomad, about his one-man walking tour of Britain, which follows up Sky Atlantic’s Alan Partridge: Scissored Isle mockumentary earlier this year.
He said: “Nomad brings you the story of a one-man walk I undertook to try to learn about who I really am.
“I was able to take transport when essential but I set myself one caveat: no unlicensed mini-cabs.
“With witty vignettes, heavy essays and nod-inducing pieces of wisdom, I shine a light on the nooks of the nation and the crannies of myself.
“It’s a piece of work of which I’m immensely proud and if I had to sum it up in one word, that word would simply be: hope.”
Published by Orion Books, it is a follow-up to 2011′s I, Partridge: We Need To Talk About Alan.
Nomad will be released on October 20.
