Ugly Guys are really groovy

THE Ugly Guys bring a slice of cosmic American music to the Riga Music Bar, on Friday.

Featuring Paul Shuttleworth and Vic Collins, the former singer and steel pedal guitarist of the Kursaal Flyers, the group are inspired by the likes of the Byrds and Gram Parsons.

Paul and Vic have been performing together since 1969, when they appeared in country-flavoured rock band Cow Pie.

From 1973 to 1977, they played together in the Kursaal Flyers, whose single Little Does She Know reached number 14 in the UK charts.

The pair are joined by former Jerry the Ferret guitarist Steve Oliver, original Hamsters’ bassist Andy Farrell, and Mickey Jupps, who has drummed with the Lew Lewis Band and Chicken Shack, to complete the line-up.

If you like the twangy guitars and solid base grooves of bands like the Eagles and Counting Crows, the Ugly Guys, who take their name from a Kursaal Flyers song, are worth checking out.

Doors open at the venue in London Road, Westcliff, 8.30pm and tickets ate £6.
